The current owner, Chris Hazelmann, bought the company in 1999 and focused the company’s services to exclusively litigation support splitting the creative services off into another company which was eventually closed. At the same time as focusing services to litigation, courtroom technology was introduced as an expanded offering which quickly entailed graphic creation and demonstrative support. More recently, the company has added strategic services and now offers a broad range of litigation support services under one roof.
In the early years under new ownership, much of the high-end courtroom technology services were provided as sub-contract work to other, larger companies. This gave the employees experience working at the highest levels of large-scale litigation. As the largest player in the Seattle market, Prolumina enjoyed a reputation as the “company that put courtroom technology on the map” in the area.
Over the past several years, with increased competition and large law firms looking to retain as much billable work as possible, we have seen a trend towards bringing litigation support services in-house to law firms. Prolumina’s philosophy is these services are best provided by companies with deep expertise that have these services as core competencies. All too often, we have been across the aisle from another firm trying – usually with less than optimal success – to remember how to use a trial presentation application they may not have touched in months.
